WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The track & field teams will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday at their two-day Rankin/Poehlein Invitational. The Boilermakers welcome Indiana as well as Wabash’s men’s team. Friday’s action consists of the men’s and women’s hammer throw and begins at 5 p.m. ET, while the rest of the action will take place Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at Rankin Track & Field.
The Boilermakers will honor 16 senior student-athletes at approximately 1:20 p.m. Saturday. Among those who will be recognized is Carmiesha Cox, a three-time Big Ten champion, six-time All-American and member of three school records. Three-time All-American Kyle Webb will also be among those recognized, as will Chelsie Meeks and Caleb Fricke, both of whom have earned Honorable Mention honors in the discus. All-American Obokhare Ikpefan will also be part of the senior day festivities.
Saturday’s track events will begin at 1:45 with the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. The meet is scheduled to conclude at 4:15 with the men’s 4x400m relay.
The Purdue women enter the meet ranked 21st in the country. Devynne Charlton and Savannah Carson lead the talented women’s team. Charlton ranks seventh in the country in the 100m hurdles, 16th in the 100m dash and 22nd in the 200m dash. Carson is second in the country in the long jump and 35th in the 100m dash. The Boilermakers lead the Big Ten in five events, including Micaela Hazlewood who has the top discus throw in the conference this season. Anaquan Peterson, a senior, and Eric Blackman are among the leaders on the men’s side as both have a No. 2 conference mark with Peterson’s coming in the triple jump and Blackman’s in the high jump.
